Runtime Error 75 Path File Access Error - Read Only Files
Solution

Problem - The error message "Run Time Error 75 Path/File access error" appears after performing some action in the software.

Explanation - The program is trying to open and/or modify a file in the database and Windows will not allow this action to take place.  There are 2 common causes for this error:

1. The permissions for the Windows user account do not allow full read/write/modify access to the necessary files.  The areas that require this access are:

       a. The database folder

       b. The software folder (typically C:\Program Files\<software name>, i.e. C:\Program Files\Cairs-32)

       c. The local settings folder (C:\Unique)

Check the windows permissions for all three of these locations and make sure they allow full access to all of them.

2. One or more of the files being used by the software is set as "Read Only".  View the properties windows of the folders listed above and look at the "Read Only" check box at the bottom of the main tab.  It should be unchecked in all cases.  If you have recently transferred any files to a CD and then copied them onto the machine where the error is occuring, this is likely to be the cause of the problem.  When a file is copied to a CD, Windows automatically marks that file as "Read Only".  This marker DOES NOT get removed when you move the file from the CD back to a PC.  The file will remain in a read only state until you manually change this setting and a Run Time Error 75 will appear when the software tries to access it.
